On Thursday evening, NBA owners unanimously approved the Charlotte franchise’s request to return to being nicknamed the Hornets.
The nickname change was made possible after New Orleans changed their nickname from the Hornets to the Pelicans.
The Charlotte franchise was known as the Hornets until 2002, when the team moved to New Orleans. The New Orleans team retained the Hornets name, and when Charlotte was given an NBA expansion team in 2004, they took on the Bobcats as a nickname.
The Bobcats nickname was never much loved, though, and when the franchise had the opportunity to reclaim the Hornets, they jumped at it.
As many of you remember, the Charlotte Hornets had one of the strongest color combinations and most sought-after jerseys of the nineties. I myself had a kids medium Larry Johnson jersey that I stole from a buddy of mine and still, to this day, have not returned. And don’t even get me started on the Hornets Starter jacket.
To celebrate this wonderful moment, let’s take a look back at the old Charlotte Hornets in all their glory.

Kurt Rambis and his Rec Specs played for the Charlotte Hornets. See? You learned something today.
They’re back, young excited fan!
Get the production line going on these immediately. Tonight. This instant.
Baron Davis was a Charlotte Hornet, but he also made the move with the team to New Orleans.
Muggsy!
