The Tim Tebow Experiment got off to a slow start Friday in Foxborough, Mass., as the Patriots gathered for their first full-squad practice. On a rainy afternoon, Tebow lined up in a variety of places on the field, caught passes from Tom Brady and even took a few reps at quarterback. Fans cheered his name (though such feelings are fickle, as evidenced today). As our own Jarrett Bell detailed, Tebow seemed uncomfortable as a passer.
There were wild passes, some that sailed high and others that landed at the feet of receivers. His release is still long and slow. During one seven-on-seven play, when two equipment managers waved paddles to distract the quarterbacks, Tebow held onto the football for so long that he could have been sacked by one of the equipment managers as he rolled out looking for a target. He also was picked off twice.
Coach Bill Belichick has given no indication how he plans to use Tebow other than “wherever we feel like he’s best for the team,” but Pats fans gave a preview of what the season might be like during practice today, chanting Tom Brady’s name as Tebow struggled, according to Boston Globe reporter Shalise Manza Young.
