The 24 Hours of Spa endurance race, for many drivers, could have ended just seconds after the green flag dropped. Trying to navigate the trickiest part of the track — a high-speed left-right-left combination of corners, the Eau Rouge and Raidillon, that ascend a steep hill — Alessandro Pier Guidi lost control of his Ferrari 458 and went spinning in front of the entire field.
Somehow, Pier Guidi saved the car from careening into stacks of tires, and the drivers behind him avoided what would have been massive, heartbreaking crash early in the afternoon. Pier Guidi’s team finished 12th overall.
(Thanks to Jalopnik for bringing this to our attention.
