PHILADELPHIA -- The Eagles confirmed Saturday that wide receiver Jeremy Maclin tore his ACL when he crumpled untouched during practice. He lay on the ground for several minutes writhing in pain.
Eagles coach Chip Kelly came over and spent a few minutes talking to him as the trainers attended to the wide receiver. A cart pulled up and Maclin was helped onto his feet, unable to put any weight on his leg.
Maclin was lifted into the cart and wheeled off, a towel over his face.
Several players showed their concern as he rode by in the cart.
"I [had] seen it out of the corner of my eye," quarterback Michael Vick said. "I [had] seen him fall. And usually, when a guy falls like that, you know it's something to be worried about."
"It looked like his knee just kind of buckled on him a little bit," wide receiver DeSean Jackson said. "Hopefully it's not too bad and that he can get back out there and play with us this year."
This will likely affect Maclin's next contract. Maclin was entering his fifth season, the final year of his contract. He caught 69 passes for 857 yards last season with seven touchdowns as the Eagles' leading receiver.
In just two days of practice, the Eagles have seen two of their perceived top six receivers go down with knee injuries. Arrelious Benn left Friday's practice with a knee injury and didn't practice Saturday.
But Maclin's is by far the worst.
